Co-Ed Classes

Muay Thai classes take the beginner through the fundamentals of Muay Thai. This involves bag work, light contact sparring and body mechanics.  As you advance, you will develop a solid base of Muay Thai techniques, as well as a conditioned body---a key element to correct training. Advanced techniques and strategies will develop from your Muay Thai base.  You will then learn to combine these techniques and strategies through enhanced pairing drills, bag work and pad work.

If you've never had martial arts classes or training, this class will start you at the beginner level. You progress at your own pace. There are no expectations for you to progress at a certain speed or to become a fighter. And in keeping with traditional old school muay thai, there is no belt system in our classes. So, feel free to come in, work out, get stronger and healthier and have fun!

On the other hand, if you have a desire to learn muay thai and wish to take it to a competitive level, our classes will give you all the tools you need to achieve your goal. If you have the focus, humility and discipline it takes to be a student, but the drive and determination to be a fighter, you just might be up for the challenge!!

We take great pride in our students and their attitude. They will motivate and encourage, but will also check arrogance! We want everyone to feel safe and respected at Ohio Muay Thai - West Side and expect the same in return.

Yes, you are learning to fight. Yes, you are going to be challenged. Yes, you will have fun!

Women Only

You asked for it! For you women who want to learn muay thai techniques and get a great cardio workout, but don't want to do partner drills or hit anyone (at least -- not yet!), our women's class is your answer! The women's class focuses on cardio and technique and will work every part of your body. You will work muscles you didn't even realize you had!

You won't be punching and kicking the air for an hour in this class. Our instructor, Beth, will have you doing push ups and sit ups, jogging and running and wondering why you didn't start muay thai sooner!

Training includes:

  • heavy bag work
  • pad drills
  • ab and core exercises
  • muscle toning
  • self defense techniques
  • and body mechanics

If you have pent up aggression, want to lose weight and get in shape or just want to do something different, come in and try a class. This class works for all fitness levels.

Learn to defend yourself and test your mental and physical strength. You will develop self-confidence and self-discipline, as well as being physically challenged in a positive and motivating atmosphere.

Kid's Muay Thai

These classes are designed for kids from 6 - 12 years old. Children will be taken through Muay Thai basics learning fundamentals and proper technique. Kids will hit heavy bags and mitts, learn combinations and participate in full contact partner drills and controlled sparring.

Our goal is to create a positive and fun environment in which children can learn the ancient martial art of Muay Thai.

With the current state of bullying and worse in our schools, our muay thai class for kids is a perfect way for them to gain self confidence, make friends and learn to defend themselves. With muay thai, you use every part of the body to attack and defend, which makes it a perfect martial art for kids. And, in keeping with old school traditional muay thai, since there is no belt system, there is less pressure on kids to "perform" their marial art.

No assembly line teaching here. We are hands on with the kids with a minimum of two instructors in the class at all times. Proper technique is taught on push ups, sit ups, running and jumping. We work with how your child learns and provide one on one training when needed.

Training includes:

  • heavy bag work
  • pad drills
  • strength and flexibility
  • balance
  • ab and core exercises
  • muscle toning
  • self defense techniques
  • and body mechanics

Kids are physically challenged in a high energy, fun and enjoyable atmosphere.

Also offered on Tuesdays at Ohio Muay Thai - West Side

Adult Jiu Jitsu classes are taught by Dustin Ware, a black belt under Jorge Gurgel.

Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on grappling and ground fighting with the goal being to gain the dominant or guard position. Using joint-locks and choke holds you can force an opponent to submit. Proper technique is taught so that a smaller or weaker person can successfully defend themselves against bigger and stronger assailants simply by using leverage.
